Visitors travelling in Iceland will enjoy staying at Fljótsdalur Hostel for it is a traditional Icelandic house with turf walls. From the house, the view of the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull is splendid. Compared to modern standards the Hostel is rather small and primitive. The Hostel is 27 km away from the bus stop and guests are advised to bring food as the nearest store is also 27 km away ( at Hvolsvöllur ). At the Hostel there is a good collection of English publications on Iceland. The surrounding area is ideal for hikers,Tindafjallajökull glacier, Þórólfsfell mountain, Einhyrningsflatir plain, and Markarfljót canyon are all nearby. We can recommend the following independent walks from the Hostel. Fljótsdalur - Tindafjallajökull - Fljótsdalur. Approx. 9 hour walk. Fljótsdalur - Þórólfsfell - Fljótsdalur. 3 hour walk.
