The village Grenivík is a part of Grýtubakkahreppur district in eastern Eyjafjörður fjord. The population is about 377, close to 300 in the village and another 100 in the countryside south of the village.
Grenivík is not far from some of Iceland's most popular hiking routes. Látraströnd and Fjörður district used to be inhabited. The last farms in Fjörður were abandoned in 1944 and only one farm in Látraströnd is still habited. This old and abandoned district is a paradise for hikers and getting more popular every year. It's very beautiful and full of history.
