Hostelling International Iceland is growing once again and we are proud to announce the grand opening of our newest building in the capital city.
The new Reykjavik Downtown Hostel is located in one of the city´s most historically rich neighborhoods, a short stroll from the old harbor, and in the heart of the old 'village.' All of the city's major attractions are easily accessible by foot, including it's museums, galleries, shopping, restaurants, pubs and music venues.
The hostel is staffed with a capable crew of receptionists, baristas, and housekeepers (all of them enthusiastic travelers) whose mission is to help create a comfortable and relaxed stay here in the city and beyond. As much as we enjoy the city life, and the company of our guests, we must insist that you see and do more while you are here. To that end we operate as an information center as well, and are happy to recommend and arrange tours for you. Bus tickets, tours and excursions, and budget car rental packages are all available, and include pick-up service.
We are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Transportation from the airport is via the FlyBus™, a service which connects with every incoming flight and delivers you to our doorstep. A return service is available as well, and can be arranged the day before your departure from the hostel reception. We make every effort to have your bed available upon arrival but check-in can only be guaranteed after 14:00, check-out is by 10:00; early arrivals are welcome to store their luggage and begin exploring. If it has been a long trip, you can perk up with a cappuccino from our in-house coffee bar.
The facilities include free WiFi in the lounge, coffee bar, TV, and a fully equipped guest kitchen. We have spacious dorms with 10 beds, dorms with 4 beds, family rooms which accommodate up to 5 persons (one couple and 3 children), and double rooms. With the exception of some of the double rooms (a mini apartment holding up to 12 persons) all rooms are ensuite. Bed linen is available for all beds for guests not traveling with their own. Breakfast is available from the coffee bar as well, and is an excellent way to start your day.
We look forward to hearing from you, we look forward to confirming your reservation, and most of all we look forward to welcoming you as a guest in our newest home in the city.
Wishing you safe and memorable travels,
The Staff of the Reykjavik Downtown Hostel

Opening times
Opening times (daily/weekly): There is a receptionist on duty or a night watch available 24hours. Flights to Iceland can arrive quite late in the day, and you should not worry about checking in late. The reception desk is open from 8am to midnight.
Directions
Bus: Two different bus types operating in Iceland. The first are the local city buses, called stæto. The reach some of the outer suburbs and have recently begun service to the town of Selfoss. The schedules and routes can be found on www.bus.is The latter are more like tour buses and are operated by various companies to most corners of the country. From Reykjavík they depart from the BSÍ terminal (home of the FlyBus™). Schedules and more information can be found at www.bsi.is.
Metro: If you really MUST go underground, we would be happy to book a tour with the local caving guides.
Parking: Metered street parking is available in front of the hostel, and there a few larger metered lots throughout the city. Rates vary by location.
Sea port: Reykjavík has both a port and a harbor. The harbor, where many of the fishing, whale watching, and coast guard boats are docked, is located 100 meters down the road. The port, where all of the shipping containers arrive to Iceland, is a few kilometers eastward along the coast.
Location: Downtown. In the center of everything.
Rail: The trains in Iceland are notoriously slow and never on schedule. We recommend that you take a bus, rent a car, pedal a bike, or just plain walk the distance instead.
Airport: Transportation from the airport is via the FlyBus™, a service which connects with every incoming flight and delivers you to our doorstep. A return service is available as well, and can be arranged the day before your departure from the hostel reception. There will always be somebody on duty for check-in, regardless of arrival time.
