Eldur í Húnaþingi is a youth festival that has been held since 2003. Preparation for the festival is based on the work of volunteers from the province. Every year new people get to plan the festival and therefore new ideas come to life every year. Nevertheless there are certain events that have marked their permanent place in the program.

The opening act takes place on Wednesday the 21st of July in the community center in Hvammstangi. This year some local kids from a hip-hop seminar will perform a dance act, a young local musician will perform a song which he especially wrote for this occasion, and our local music Divas will sing a couple of songs for guests. After that a parade will march down to the harbor were guests will be served free Icelandic meat soup or Kjötsúpa as we call it.

Melló Músíka is held on Thursday evening and is an occasion where local musicians perform. Later in the evening a blues band named Beebee and the Bluebirds will play sweet music into the night.

One of the main events of the festival are concerts held at Borgarvirki, but Borgarvirki is an old fortress with a lot of history and one of the most beautiful places made by nature in the region. This year an Icelandic singer, Regína Ósk, is performing.

After the concerts at Borgarvirki, Icelands most popular band, Dikta, will perform at a concert held at the local community center.

Family-day is on Saturday the 24th of July. Everyone can find something of their interest to do. Jumping castles, soap-football for the older ones, free grilled hot dogs and soda, and Boot Camp company competition.

In the evening children get a chance to go to a children´s dance, which is being held from 20:00-22:00. At 23:00 starts a dance for people from 16 years and older. The band playing this year is named Í Svörtum Fötum.

And in addition many other events are available like cozy time on the beach, a world champion competition in a card game named Kleppari, ping-pong tournament, dodge ball tournament, local radio station, art exhibitions, and many more.
