The art director of Iceland
3/7/10 11:40
Major news from Hollywood: Karl Júlíusson art director won the Art Directors guild awards for designing the set of the war film The Hurt Locker. As most people know the movie was very popular with the Oscar academy winning both for Best picture and best director Kathryn Bigelow

This is good news for the Icelandic film industry as Karl got his start in in Iceland. It is quite interesting that someone from Iceland designs the set for a war film. Iceland is a country without an army and has not been in a hand to hand battle with other countries that is if we exclude the cod war with the Brits and the Viking adventure many centuries ago. However the Viking thing was an inner conflict so there has not been alot of action here on the island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The positioning of the Island has a huge effect on the non-conflict situation of the country.

Karl Juliusson did an excellent job creating the set for The Hurt locker but sometimes you need an outsider to see the situation clearer than someone that knows it first hand. So yet another excellent job.

Currently he is working on a film about drug wars so different reason for conflict but same principal. The main actor in that film is Josh Brolin you might remember him in the hit teen film The Goonies
