NASA's Terra satellite captured astounding images of the erupting Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland(NASA) |
A volcanic eruption means in most cases danger for both people, livestock and nature. The eruption in the south of Iceland by the Eyjafallaglacier is of a totally different nature. It is more like a way for mother earth to increase the tourism in Iceland and create a unique show in low season. The hotels are delighted by the sudden attraction and the airlines are just as happy.
The eruption can be seen from the ring road or for those who want to come close a 8 hour upwards. It is however funny that most Icelanders are not putting it as their first priority to see the eruption...like this is an everyday situation for them.
News are frequent of the event and just recently it was announced that the lave has created a second lava-fall streaming like a waterfall down from a mountain ledge.
Authorities have warned people not to go close to the eruption in their casual clothes but dress as for for winter in Iceland. Just now the Icelandic rescue mission had to go to the area to rescue a man in very casual clothes: just a leather jacket and jeans.
