Earth tremors under the Eyjafjallajökull glacier
4/14/10 09:36
Yet another eruption in the proximity of the former area of Fimmvorduhals has started. The Fimmvorduhals volcanic area has been dying out in the past few days and the lave steam has cooled down leaving solidifies lava rivers. It seems that the cork has been put into that eruption just starting another one instead. Now that one is under the glacier Eyjafjallajökull and is melting the Glacier creating a damp of water inside the glacier that may lead to flood.

attached picture got from the Hotelsite http://www.hotelranga.is/ that is very close to the eruption site.

Press release taken from mbl.is

"Since it now considered to be highly likely that there is a volcanic eruption under the south western side of the summit of Eyjafjallajökull glacier, the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, has decided to evacuate all areas in the immediate vicinity of the glacier. People in the area of Fljótshlid, Merkurbæir, Markarfljótsaurar and Landeyjum are instructed to go and register at Red Cross Mass Care centres. These centres are located in Heimaland, Varmahlid and Drangshlid. In addition, the Red Cross Mass Care centre has been opened in the elementary school in Hvolsvöllur.

The main road, National route 1, is now closed from Skeiðavegamót to the west of Skógará. "

Below is a video of the former eruption that has been going on for the past few weeks
