Reykjavík was shocked by a dastardly crime last week. A large statue of a polar bear in front of the shop Polar Bear was snatched during daylight hours in downtown Reykjavík. The robbery seems to have been planned in advance as witness describe a large, white van suddenly coming to a stop in front of the shop followed by four young men rushing out of the van, snatching the polar bear and driving off with him in a few moments time.
After a frantic search by police, the bear was found in
Reykjavik Zoo & Family Park, standing there without moving an inch. Many see this as a reminder to the new mayor of Reykjavík, comedian Jón Gnarr, that he should keep his promise of catching a Polar Bear for the Park.
As for the culprits, they‘re still at large, unarmed and laughing their asses off.
