Bags for your groceries

Most grocery stores in Iceland sell the plastic bags on offer for carrying the purchased items. In most cases the teller will ask how many are wanted before the transaction takes place. Usually one bag costs 15 kr but the money received for the bags goes into various funds that put money into environmental, educational, sports, and humanitarian projects all over the country. They amount they have given to this projects are around 4 million dollars from the year the fund was started 1995. But still some controversy has been over this in Iceland as the stores use a part of the 15 kr to pay for the production of the bags and delivery. So by having the costumer pay for the bag he pays both to the environmental fund and also for the production of the bag itself, before the store used to pay for the bag so this way the store saves a lot of money but still gets a lot of credit for being environmentally friendly. There are many ways to look at this but still people are generally happy with this concept, and people need bags for their groceries.
