Huldufolk

Huldufólk (meaning Hidden People) are a part of Icelandic folklore. They are elf-like creatures that are believed to live in large rocks and appear in the significant or prophetic dreams of Icelanders. Of all the spirit world, huldufolk are the most like humans, except they are inevitably more beautiful, talented, and charming. They interact with humans when and where they wish to. They are generally benign, but terrible things have occurred to those who have wantonly disturbed or destroyed their dwellings, from huge cost overruns on construction sites to accidents and even death.

A Huldufolk home?



Few Icelanders will admit to believing in Huldufolk but at the same time few are able to entirely deny their existence. Most locals grow up hearing stories from older family members about encounters with these mystical beings.
