The hot water smells

The hot water in Iceland is in most cases heated by geothermal and used in houses both for heating and in the bathroom. But the geothermal water is not used itself for the houses only fresh water is pumped up an headed up with geothermal so there is just the head exchange. Icelanders like their hot water very much but when a tourist uses the hot water there comes a strange smell. That is because of the geothermal heading. In that process the water gets this geothermal smell. The Blue Lagoon is made from geothermal.

The hot water in Iceland comes from the lake at Thinkvellir.
